He completed a residency in otolaryngology \u2014 head and neck surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, in addition to a neurotology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He received his doctorate from the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Prior to this, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
